Hair Optimisation

Hair Optimisation: Restoring and maintaining healthy hair

Hair loss and thinning can significantly affect both appearance and self-confidence. While hair loss is viewed as a hereditary issue, several factors—including hormonal, nutritional, and lifestyle influences—also play a role. At IKARIA Clinics, we address these underlying causes of hair loss rather than solely focusing on genetics.

Using a medical and scientific approach, we provide customised treatment plans to reduce hair loss and optimise hair growth.

Causes of hair loss

Hair loss can result from various factors, including:

Hormonal imbalance | An excess of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) can weaken hair follicles and lead to hereditary baldness (androgenic alopecia).
Nutrient deficiencies | Iron, zinc, vitamin D and B12 deficiency can lead to hair loss and reduced hair quality.
Thyroid problems | Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can cause hair loss.
Stress & lifestyle | Chronic stress increases cortisol, accelerating hair loss.
Medication use | Certain medications, such as antidepressants and blood pressure drugs, can have side effects that lead to hair loss.

To find out the exact cause of your hair loss, we start with a comprehensive hair and scalp analysis and a blood test in which we measure the following values, among others:

Iron (Ferritin) | essential for oxygen supply to the hair roots.
Vitamin D & B12 | essential for healthy hair growth and cell renewal.
Thyroid hormones (TSH, Free T4) | to rule out underlying thyroid problems.
Testosterone & DHT levels | to determine whether hormonal factors contribute to hair loss.

Personalised Treatment Plan

Based on the examination results, we draw up a personalised treatment plan. This may consist of nutritional and supplement advice or, if necessary, we offer the following medicinal options:

Minoxidil (lotion) | A proven hair growth stimulant that prolongs the hair cycle and stimulates blood flow to the scalp.
Finasteride (oral or lotion) | Reduces DHT production, making hair follicles less likely to weaken and fall out.

Follow-up & monitoring

Because hair optimisation is a long-term process, we schedule a follow-up consultation in 2 to 4 months to evaluate progress and adjust the treatment plan as required.
